Christopher Columbus

Shri Mataji claims, if Christopher Columbus really had discovered India, then the Europeans would have killed all the Indians and there would be no Sahaja Yoga today.

,,Thank God, Columbus did not reach India. Otherwise I would have not been here. They would have killed all of us nicely. '' [1]

Thank God, I have told you many-a-times that Columbus lost his way and came here, not to India. Otherwise, there would have been no Indians left and no Sahaja Yoga. I think it was the trick of Hanumana. He misled him and Columbus came here. Thank God! [2]

America and India

When Christopher Columbus discovered America in the year 1492, he thought that this country is India. During his life he never realized that he discovered a whole new continent.
Only a few years later (in the year 1498) had the portugese sailor Vasco de Gamma sailed around Africa and find the way to the real India.

With the discovery of America began the age of colonialism, which lasted several centuries. America (especially Noth America) was ideal for colonialization because of it's large uninhabited areas. This attracted all sorts of people from europe, for example adventurers or people who wanted to start a new life on a new continent.
India, on the other hand, was one of the richest and densley populated regions of the world with a population of estimated 70-100 Million people. It was a region with a long history of civilisation and kingdoms. There were powerful and prosperous kingdoms like the Vijayanagar Empire (until 1565) und later the Mogul Empire (from 1526). These empires had large armies and fortified cities.
The Aztecs and the Inca in the Americas were also powerful civilizations, but imported diseases from Europe, such as smallpox and measles, led to mass deaths within a short time. When India was colonized approximately 250 years later, there was no comparable catastrophe. India has a land connection to Europe, and diseases such as smallpox, measles, and others were already present there. As a result, the Indian population had developed some immunity, whereas the Indigenous peoples of the Americas had been separated by an ocean and had no immunity to these diseases.

Further, the sea route to India via Africa is three times longer than the one to America. That means that conducting wars is more difficult.
The colonization of India by the British began in the 18th century (especially from 1757 with the Battle of Plassey, which is considered a turning point). At the time of Christopher Columbus, Europeans were not yet developed enough to carry out the colonization of India.
The colonial period in India under the British was very terrible and exploitative. But not all Indians were killed. Genocide was not the goal, but the exploitation of resources for self-enrichment.

Trick of Hanuman

In the quotation of Shri Mataji it says that it was Hanuman who prevented Christopher Columbus from finding the true way to India. This statement seems to me in some respects somewhat illogical. For the idea of Columbus was to find a quick way to India. It was known that there must be a way to India by sailing around Africa, but this route is long and at that time still undeveloped.
Columbus assumed that the earth is round and therefore one need not necessarily sail around Africa but could simply travel west. The idea itself is good, however he underestimated the size of the earth and did not know that between Europe and India there was another continent: America.
This was his original idea and for that reason he set sail. Had he been forced to take the route via Africa, he probably would not have left at all. His whole idea was based on finding a clever shortcut, a brilliant trick. He did it probably at least in part to gain fame and honour. It is a little bit subtle: But Hanumana could not lead him astray, if he would not have sailed out in the first place, had he known that he had to go over Africa and that there is no shortcut.

There would be no Sahaja Yoga

Let us assume that it had been India and not America which was discovered first and that there really were no Indians left. Then there would also be no Hinduism and no Sahaja Yoga, because it is based on Hinduism. But if Sahaja Yoga is the true path which God has given for the salvation of humanity, then it should still be possible to find another solution. If Shri Mataji is the incarnation of the Holy Spirit, then it would still be possible for her to incarnate, but not in India, but elsewhere. She could nevertheless teach us the method by which we can be saved and come to God.
